Naijamaican's Editorial and Information page ''For the Love of Nigeria''

Nigeria is a very popular country, in living abroad, many people tell me its because we form the highest population of migrants into other countries in the world.

It can be saddening when you meet people who think you want to con them, must be an economic migrant, or indeed just don't belong especially if you are Nigerian by origin and British by Citizenship and nationality, but, we thank God, for all it's shortcomings, Nigeria and Nigerians do have a strong sense of identity and belonging, we are staunchly defendant of our fatherland and indeed, we hope to continue to see more input from all including Colonising countries and private agencies to improve the situation in Nigeria for the better.

Indeed, we are also industrious, very hardworking and very talented people. In Nigeria, despite all, the key thing you will find is that Education is paramount to many and indeed the standard of education is quite high regardless of environment.

It is not lack of amenties as such in totality that is the problem that kills so rapidly in Nigeria, it is poverty. There are many outreach, charitable and support associations operating within Nigeria and also many that focus on literacy, education, outreach to diaspora and much more. This page feautures information updated on an ongoing basis that showcases, highlights, advertises, promotes and provides information that gives insight into the matters in Nigeria, details of organisations that can help and much more.  If you have any information that you feel would be of benefit to others or have a group, club, charitable group that you would like to see feautured here, please don't hesitate to contact me via email and I shall review and include this. I don't like people who think Nigerians or Africans are for sale, we have much you can buy, but our people are not commodities.

I love Nigeria, and so do all of us, it is really sad that Nigeria is now noted for its steady decline and poor basic amenity supply, crime, kidnapping, armed robbery, motor accidents, poor national security and piracy and a very wide eye has been cast aside from what I consider to be the root of our problems. A few are listed here.

  • We seem to be tied to rule and leadership by the older generation and indeed this is reflected in the unique senate formation in Nigeria where there is a junior and senior senate.
  • Corruption seems to be rife and internally although a lot is being done to improve the impact and reduce the occurence, it is still widely known that many Nigerian leaders and senior members of community including anyone with the opportunity to do so; milk the national treasury like it is a piggy bank.
  • A big eye, a very big eye is being cast away from the problem associated with oil prospecting in Nigeria, the lush rainforest, is now an oil forest with the mangrove swamps engulfed with caked in crude oil which has encroached on land in many regions causing decline and total eradication of wildlife and aquatic life including agriculture.  Gas can still be flamed In Nigeria, pipelines are not secure and are on ground level and fuel shortages are rife with Nigeria a main producer of crude oil importing petroleum products giving rise to bunkering, kidnaps and ransom demands by millitants angered and crazed by deprivation and in recent times, terror attacks.
  • Nigeria has begun to regain its spot in the import industry but not as major cocoa, coal, food produce exporters but really just to fuel the demand for nigerian goods by those indegenes who have moved abroad.
  • Nigeria is unable to sustain a functional national grid with lack of Electricity power being the main cause of concern to many.
  • Nigeria is a rich country however we have become devalued by way of exploitation and many view us as people to rob rather than invest in.
  • Nigerian rulers have minimal and limited expertise, and knowledge and are socially excluded from the wider international consortia and limited in scope and implementation of change and indeed the electoral system is under scrutiny as many still beleive it is not a good or functional system and where rulership comes in, nepotism and tribalism have become weapons which lead to mass destruction of lives on a wide scale and there is continued deprivation in the country.

Ok, I have said my piece, and I may be blamed for being a sapling who thinks she is an iroko, well, ok too; but one day, there will be no segregated line at the airport for owning a green passport, there will be no sickness, war, strife, internal conflict, poverty, hunger, lack of commodities and amenities, terrorism, and bad things in Nigeria, .....its not just my thinking, it is my prayer, and I hope you are all saying Amen!! I will never be tired of defending Nigeria, for all its shortcomings, it is the only place that feels trully like home for me.
