Speak up about Healthcare for London
London the Capital City of England, one of the most densely populated cities in the UK and with one of the most diverse national populations has been going through a process of consultation with a view to change.

The governement is making proposals and plans which are supposed to improve the way that healthcare is delivered in London as a whole.  The proposals will affect all who work and live in London.

Proposals made including plans from an earlier consultation 'A Framework for Action' can be seen on the Healthcare for London Website  and in summary include the introduction and streamlining of services already available and improvements and changes to these to increase quality and service.

Five key principles form the backbone of this consultation document and these include
  • Services focussed on individual needs and choices.
  • Services that are localised and regionalised to improve quality of care where possible.
  • Joined up care and partnership working to maximise the healthcare workforce.
  • Working with the principles of prevention being better than cures.
  • Focussing on reducing the differences in health and healthcar accross London, commonly known as the postcode healthcare system.

The reasons set out for these include the need to improve health and help all to stay healthy, meet expectations, bridge inequality gapss, improving and meeting standards expected in modern society, Using existing workforce and infrastructure effectively and making the best use of taxpayers money.

The end result is to meet recommendations which include

  • Ensuring that the existing servces are working well such as GP practices and hospitals
  • Providing a new kind of community based care between hospitals and GP practices.
  • Developing a few more specialised hospitals focused on providng better quality care from home, ployclinics, local hospitals, major acute hospitals, planned care centres, and specialist hospitals.

In practical terms these proposals include the provision of better healthcare by using

  • Polyclinics - Health centres and general medical centres which would be open 24 hours a day for dealing with non urgent medical cases, easing the strain on A&E departments.  These would be either located at hospitals or at GP hubs
  • Introduction of flexibility and empowerment to patients who from the beginning of this year should be able to chooose any approved provider of healthare for planned treatment with better access to information about what to expect and how your healthcare should be delivered.
  • Keeping patient information secure, accurate and within this ensuring that patient have full access to their records as well as the provision for healthcare providers to use this information to provide healthcare based on truthful, accurate, honest and up to date information.
  • Working to prevent ill health, to provide better maternity and primary health care services and improve the delivery and monitoring of care delivery to black and ethnic minority groups in all areas.

Let Us All Give This Consultation the Boost of The Power in Numbers. After all Its our London.
